Parco della Gallinara
The ups and downs of Anzio's history have always been linked to its coastal position! Since summer 2009, Anzio beach has held Blue Flag certification, confirming that it is a non-polluted marine area, with clean seawater.
Legend has it that Anzio was founded by Ascanius, son of Aeneas, or by Anteias, son of the Homeric hero Ulysses and the sorceress Circe. The Parco della Gallinara faces out across more than 2 km of free-access beaches with light, fine sand, which gradually slope down to the sea through wide shallows, with a border of attractive dunes – topped with wild plants – that overlooks the shore. If you prefer, you can opt to use alternative bathing facilities that offer a plethora of services, to allow you to get the most out of your seaside holiday.
The foreshore and the shore itself are perfect for strolling and jogging along, but there's also plenty of space for those who want to lie back and read, meditate or marvel at the unrivalled natural spectacle!
The Maestrale (northwest), Libeccio (southwest) and Scirocco (southeast) winds – which are often a feature of the climate due to the natural shape of the coast, unbroken by bays or inlets – make this a haven for all those who love water sports, particularly sailing, windsurfing and the latest trend, kitesurfing, with the option to attend courses at the local water sports centres.
